The magical Ardennes Wood is sometimes flooded by the River Sélune whose salmon-rich waters are much appreciated by anglers. Passerines such as crested tits, treecreepers, goldcrests and warblers bring to life the undergrowth with their distinctive song, whilst the rapid drumming of the woodpeckers (great, middle and lesser spotted and green woodpeckers) seem to syncopate with bubbling of the flowing stream. Mighty oaks and beeches interspersed with thickets of silver birch dress this forest valley in a cloak of green and brown.
