Meet the potters of Ger
The "Museum of Norman Pottery" becomes the "Museum of Ceramics - Centre of Creation": a change of name for ever more actions in favor of the knowledge and the valorization of pottery heritage and ceramic creation!
From the fifteenth to the beginning of the twentieth century, Ger’s potters manufactured, in industrial quantities, sandstone pots intended mainly for the preservation and transport of food.
Discover their daily life and their know-how that inspire today’s ceramists!
The museum, completely refurbished in recent years, presents the use of pots and the daily life of the past through a selection of objects, ambiences, fun modules, but also audiovisual shows.
As you walk through the workshop, the dryer shed and the large tunnel-kilns, you will know everything about the process of making pots, from the extraction of clay to their delicate firing.
In the master potter’s house, you will understand the economic and social organization of this incredible pottery community.
A creative centre, the site exhibits contemporary pieces produced by renowned creators. The museum also hosts a young ceramist in its workshop nursery for 23 months. Come to meet him, discover his universe and his production (access: by the road to Sourdeval or by visiting the museum).
The annual potters' fair, courses and workshops, as well as the pieces sold in shops, are other actions in favor of today’s promotion and creation.
